Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about the service and billing. Can’t find the answer you’re looking for?
How does Bokashi Composting work?
Bokashi bran is made of good microorganisms that help break down the chemical composition of food waste so that they decompose more easily once mixed with soil. This method of composting also allows the inclusion of products such as meat, fish, and dairy which are generally not allowed in most methods of composting!
Do I have to worry about foul odor or pests?
Fermentation is key to Bokashi Composting. The pH drop during fermentation prevents rotting, inhibits growth of pathogenic bacteria, and breaks down food waste for easier digestion of soil microbes, so it will not attract pests. It is important to consider that there will be the expected smell of fermentation (like vinegar!) but this just means the Bokashi Bran is doing its job.
What can or can't I put in my composting bucket?
One of the biggest benefits of using the Bokashi method is that you can include any solid food waste (just remember to drain them before putting them in your bucket). Chicken and fish bones, fruit peelings, vegetable scraps, meats. Although, depending on your diet, the amount of bran to be used differs. If there's mostly fruits and vegetables, a handful of bran is enough per layer. If there are more meats in your diet, it's best to add up to two handfuls
What happens to the food waste you collect?
We make sure to set up new destinations for food waste and be able to process more food waste. Some of our farm partners include Caliraya Farms, Bagong Silangan QC, and Luntiang Bakuran in Plaridel Bulacan. We take the fermented food waste to be properly composted in our partner farms to help us make healthy soil.
Can I donate my food waste to you?
We don't accept food waste donations but if you'd like to stop throwing away your food waste, you can subscribe to our composting service! Learn more here →
What bucket size / quantity should I get?
We've provided guides on how to choose the right size and quantity in our resources page. We're also open to adjusting your subscription plan if you think you need more or less buckets / exchanges.

And if you have any questions before subscribing, please feel free to reach out to us at HQ!
